House of Wax is a 1953 horror film directed by André De Toth. Professor Henry Jarrod is a talented wax figure sculptor with a wax museum in 1890s New York City. He specializes in historical figures Vincent Price plays Professor Jarrod, a sculptor at the New York wax museum, whose talent is matched only by his pride in his work. Unfortunately, his business partner, Burke (Roy Roberts), wants him to make the exhibits more sensational rather than historical works such as Joan of Arc and his personal favourite, Marie Antoinette. The 1953 original House of Wax features an associate of the wax museum who burns down the museum with the owner inside. The owner survives the fire, becoming a psychopathic killer. The 2005 remake of House of Wax paints the killer as mentally challenged child abused by a twisted surgeon father and a sick wax-sculpting mother.
